In this paper, a new, robust and simple controller is suggested for a two stage, single-phase grid connected photovoltaic power system. The state space equations of the system are obtained. Adaptive backstepping nonlinear controller is employed to design this controller. Uncertainties do not affect controller performance and a fast and robust controller is achieved. The proposed photovoltaic system has two stages. In the first stage, a two-switch forward converter is used. This converter works by PWM method. Carrier frequency can reached up to several tens of kHz. This converter receives the input voltage and produces a rectified sinusoidal current. In the second stage, a single-phase inverter is used. This inverter works on the line frequency with current unfolding method. This inverter connects the photovoltaic system to the grid. The inverter uses bipolar switching. The current of the inductor of the inverter filter in the output, indicates the injected power from photovoltaic cells to the grid. Using the designed controller, the injected current tracks its reference. Simulation results show the high performance of the robust suggested nonlinear controller.
